Implementation Science Community of Practice
Sharing expertise and addressing the practical barriers to putting research evidence into everyday healthcare.
About
The Implementation Science Community of Practice brings together expertise across WA to identify and address barriers to using evidence in healthcare. Implementation science is the systematic study of methods and strategies to support the uptake of evidence-based practices into routine care and community settings. Its central aim is to close the “know–do” gap, the often-significant delay between the generation of research evidence and its consistent application in real-world practice.
Background and milestones
WAHTN launched the Implementation Science Platform in 2026. On 6 August 2026, WAHTN and the ECU Implementation Café hosted a workshop with 18 representatives from Partner Organisations, hearing perspectives from across the Western Australian (WA) health landscape on the future of implementation science in WA. Discussions focused on the goals and vision for implementation science over the next five years, barriers to achieving this vision, opportunities to address these barriers, and the role of WAHTN in supporting implementation science across the state.
Our focus
- Connecting implementation expertise across WAHTN partner organisations.
- Sharing approaches to practical implementation challenges.
- Supporting the translation of evidence into routine healthcare.
- Working with WAHTN partner organisations to broaden the reach and opportunities of implementation science.
Activities and resources
The Community of Practice is active and accepting enquiries. It connects with WAHTN’s broader Implementation Science Platform, launched in 2026 to provide foundational expertise, tools and training for researchers, clinicians, clinician researchers, policymakers and related professionals navigating the practical challenges of putting research into practice.
