Western Australian Health Translation Network
About WAHTN
Connecting people and organisations to help health research make a difference across Western Australia.
Who we are
A network built around better health
Research translation means putting knowledge from research to use. WAHTN helps create the connections and capability needed for this to happen.
Our network brings together universities, medical research institutes, public and private health service providers, PathWest and the WA Department of Health. Through shared expertise, specialist platforms and collaboration with consumers and communities, we support research that responds to health needs and can inform improvements in care.
Our role
Helping research move into practice
Evidence can only make a difference when people can use it. WAHTN helps connect research expertise with the people, settings and priorities that shape healthcare.
Connect expertise
We bring organisations and people together to identify shared challenges, exchange knowledge and explore opportunities to work across institutional boundaries.
Build capability
Our specialist platforms connect people with education, practical resources and expertise in research, consumer involvement, clinical trials and implementation science.
Support translation
We help connect research with health service priorities, with consumer and community perspectives contributing to the questions asked and the approaches taken.
Our network
Different strengths. A shared purpose.
WAHTN’s Partner Organisations bring together expertise from research, education, healthcare and government across Western Australia.
Partner Organisations
The institutions that form WAHTN’s network and contribute to its shared direction.
Specialist platforms
Four connected areas of support: Implementation Science, Consumer and Community Involvement, Research Education and Training, and Clinical Trials Enabling Platform WA.
People and communities
Researchers, health professionals, consumers and community members contribute expertise, priorities and lived experience.
RETProgram and the WAHTN Knowledge Hub sit within Research Education and Training, connecting people with learning opportunities and shared resources.
Connected nationally
WAHTN is an NHMRC-accredited Research Translation Centre and a member of the Australian Health Research Alliance. These relationships connect WAHTN with a national community working to strengthen collaboration, research capability and the use of evidence in healthcare.
Our direction
Our priorities for 2025–2027
WAHTN’s strategy focuses on bringing people together to identify barriers and develop practical approaches to research translation.
Strengthen the path into practice
Support researchers and health services with implementation knowledge, training and connections that help address unmet translation needs.
Build stronger connections
Bring researchers, clinicians, organisations and consumers together to develop partnerships and share expertise across Western Australia.
Support consumer involvement
Build the capability to involve people with lived experience meaningfully in research through training, support and collaboration.
